Dear Roy Wilkins School Community,

Jamel S. Johnson

I am excited and proud to introduce myself as the newly appointed Interim Acting Principal of Roy Wilkins School PS136Q. As your Interim Acting Principal, I want to share my mission, vision, and overall educational outlook for the foreseeable future. But before I do that, I’d like to discuss my educational and leadership experience to align our expectations for a rigorous and engaging academic experience for our students.

I have been an NYC Public Schools educator for seventeen years and counting. I started my career as a substitute teacher in district twenty-seven and later became a special education teacher, providing instruction within the integrated co-teaching model. I also served as a technology cluster teacher and was promoted to assistant principal in 2016. I have coached elementary and middle school basketball teams throughout my career, led initiatives to integrate technology into daily instruction, and incorporated STEAM-based curricular resources to promote differentiation. I have also worked to align resources such as academic intervention, afterschool instruction, enrichment activities, and restorative practices within social-emotional learning. Additionally, I have collaborated with special educators to implement academic-based recovery resources to support students with special needs. My diverse educational background has given me the passion, dedication, and knowledge to guide and support our students throughout their academic experience.

As we transition into the new school year, I want to share our mission, vision, and core values for the 2024-2025.

Mission Statement
