Dear Community,

As your principal, I am thrilled to see each one of you return to our school, bringing your unique talents, energy, and enthusiasm. This year holds countless opportunities for us to learn, grow, and create lasting memories together.
Our dedicated teachers and staff have been busy preparing an engaging curriculum and exciting activities to make this academic year unforgettable. We will explore new subjects, dive into fascinating books, conduct exciting experiments, and embark on incredible journeys of knowledge.

Remember, our school is not just a place for learning, but also a community where we support and uplift one another. Let’s continue to treat each other with kindness, respect, and empathy. Embrace diversity, celebrate our differences, and create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard. I encourage each of you to set goals, dream big, and work hard to achieve them. You have the potential to accomplish amazing things, and we are here to guide and support you every step of the way. As always, my open door policy is available to all students. Just be sure to have a pass from an adult!

Parents, thank you for entrusting us with your children’s education. We value the partnership between school and home, and together, we will nurture and shape our students into confident, responsible, and compassionate individuals.

Let’s make this school year the best one yet! I am excited to witness all your successes, growth, and achievements. Together, we can make a positive impact on our school and community. Welcome back, my wonderful students! Let’s make 2023 a year to remember!

Sincerely,
Principal Quiles

PS 136Q Mission

During all lessons, students are given opportunities to work in small instructional groups designed to cultivate higher order thinking, prompt discussion and encourage students to make their thinking visible. Students engage in challenging tasks that create a productive struggle, supporting them to think critically in a collaborative work environment. Across all subjects, students will have the opportunities to explain their reasoning and think outside the box.

Through purposeful teacher models, facilitation, and checks for understanding, learning is made accessible to all students. Teacher collaboration and planning for varied learning styles lays the foundation for students to become critical thinkers.

Using a holistic approach, students are provided social and emotional support indicative of a positive, nurturing and diverse learning environment.

A solid focus on collaboration, instruction, social-emotional wellness and a school-wide belief in “the power of yet” will catapult our students into 21st century learners who can achieve anything they set their minds to accomplish.

PS 136Q Vision

PS 136Q, The Roy Wilkins Elementary School, recognizes the diverse values and learners represented in our school community and the importance of being responsive to the needs of all students. We strive to build a growth mindset in all students; making students lifelong learners of the 21st Century, and providing students with opportunities for excellence.
