PTA Meeting Minutes

ATTENDEES:
Principal Courtney Quiles, Vice Principal Teresa Davis, Entrateca Robinson, Shaquana Johnson, Octavia Caldwell- Banks, Keneish Lewis, Dr. Oseuke, Michelle Millington. Also in attendance parents, grandparents and guardians.

The meeting was hosted by Mrs Robinson who invited everyone to express feelings or issues or ways to improve PS136 and make it the best in the district and to please continue to attend the meetings.

DISCUSSION
Ms Johnson, the parent coordinator can help parents in need of help to set up their nyc school account or if anyone is in need of a bookbag can contact Ms. Johnson at sjohnson95@schools.nyc.gov.There is also a barcode in Ms. Johnson’s welcome letter that will help parents with questions regarding absenteeism or participation or non participation in class for certain holidays.
There are plans for fundraising.
Everyone is encouraged to use Class Dojo to communicate with their child’s teacher.
Every month a calendar will be sent to parents regarding important dates, such as school closings or activities for that particular month. Example, September 30th is Spirit Day-Kindness Day. Students are encouraged to wear a t-shirt with kind words.
Parents need to complete the blue contact forms as well as give permission for pictures to be released from the Dads Take Your Child To School event.
Principal Quiles informed the attendees that the DOE has a new messaging system called MESSENGER in order to mass communicate with everyone in a quick manner and it is important to have a school account.

OTHER MATTERS DISCUSSED
Event to be held to celebrate moms for Mother’s Day.
PS136 is on Facebook and Instagram.
There will be a new website and photo shoot to showcase teachers and students at the school.
There will be construction to make the building more accessible for persons with disabilities. At that time the bulletin board will be removed, relocated and functioning.
Parents expressed concerns regarding early drop off and pick up. Principal Quiles said due to budget cuts there will not be early drop off. Students are having breakfast in the classroom and this system is working and money is able to be saved to be allocated in other areas of need.
Tuesdays between 2:20 to 3:00pm is parent engagement time with your child’s teacher by appointment.
Parents are encouraged to be on time for afternoon pick up and those with multiple children can request to pick up their children after school at one exit by writing a letter to the older child’s teacher requesting what they need to ensure pick up runs smoothly.
Ms Wilkinson will have a “Chat and Chew” on September 30th with parents.
