SLT Meeting Minutes

Mrs. Quiles opened the meeting by stating that the team would have a discussion and agreement of the bylaws, the Chancellor’s Regulations, and the various roles for the SLT. A vote was put forth as to who would serve in the roles of the SLT committee. They are as follows:
  • Dr. E. Osueke- Chairperson
  • Ms. T. Wilkinson- Facilitator
  • Ms. E. Robinson- Financial Liaison
  • Ms. K. Purvis- Secretary
  • Ms. K. Lewis- Timekeeper
There is an optional role of Parent Liaison. The Parent Liaison shares and translates the SLT minutes at the PTA meetings. (This was not voted on as of yet.)

Mrs. Quiles discussed several important points with the team:

  • Any mandatory member can designate anyone to take his or her place as long as it is in writing beforehand to the chairperson.
  • The chairperson makes sure that all people’s voices are heard. The chairperson is also a core member of the SLT. As long as the core members attend, a quorum will be valid.
  • Team members can serve more than 1 consecutive term. As per the bylaws, your child must attend the school and you cannot work for the school system.
  • The Financial Liaison documents member participation (each member must complete 30 hours for the year.)
  • There must be an equal number of parents to staff. At present, there are 10 members of SLT with an even ratio of 5 staff to 5 parent members. To hold a meeting, there must be 3 core members and one representative from each group so 5 in all.
  • Members who miss 2 consecutive meetings without valid reason may be removed from the team and compensated on a pro-rated basis.
  • Dr. Osueke will email the agendas and Ms. Purvis will email reminders.
  • We will be using the 3K room for meetings if they are held in person so the room will be accessible to all (Room 125).
  • All SLT minutes and future meetings will be shared publicly. SLT is an open meeting and the public and press are invited. Anyone who wants to come to a meeting to speak must go through the principal. All others will be observers.

After the bylaws were confirmed, Mrs. Quiles stated that the team would spend a lot of time looking at data to build on student performance.

The company Using Education will be supporting the P.S. 136 website. They will come in and photograph the teachers, students, and PTA to highlight the great things we are doing.

The SLT meeting dates were confirmed. The PTA meeting dates are not set as of yet so changes can be made to them. They will be virtual.

SLT will coordinate with PTA and Title I to make sure we are on one accord. We will wait for guidance as to whether meetings will be virtual or in person.
